Chapter 27: An Unexpected Promotion
When Chen Guo got home, she took out the medical kit and disinfected her scrapes with alcohol.
No matter what, with Yang Yue's help, Lu Ze had finally backed off, which was a good thing.
As she tended to her wounds, Chen Guo reflected on everything that had happened. It made her realize just how important it was to become stronger.
During her years of marriage, if she had been even slightly more cautious and taken the initiative to secure some leverage over Lu Ze, she wouldn’t have been pushed around so badly by him and his mother.
Sigh. She had been too naive in the past, and reality had given her a harsh wake-up call.
But it didn’t matter anymore. From now on, she wouldn’t let anyone bully her. Instead, she would work hard to rise above it all.
The next day, as soon as Chen Guo walked through the gates of the kindergarten, she saw the principal waiting for her.
Her heart sank. She had a bad feeling—was she about to be fired again? But she couldn’t even figure out what she had done wrong this time…
The principal walked over to Chen Guo and handed her a contract, smiling as she said, "Xiao Chen, take a look at this contract. If everything looks good, sign it."
"What… is this?"
Chen Guo’s heart dropped. She took the contract, expecting it to be a termination notice, but when she read it, she realized it was actually a promotion.
"Principal, what’s going on?"
Chen Guo had only been working at this kindergarten for less than a month. She couldn’t believe she was being promoted so quickly.
The principal smiled warmly and explained, "Here’s the situation. The owner of this kindergarten is the general manager of MY Group. He’s the one who requested your promotion, and you’ll be starting at the company headquarters tomorrow."
"What?!"
Chen Guo was shocked. She had no idea that this kindergarten was part of the MY Group.
But she couldn’t figure out why Yang Yue would want her to work at his company.
The principal, worried that Chen Guo might refuse, played the emotional card. "This is an order from above, Xiao Chen. Just sign the contract, and don’t make things difficult for me."
Alright, since the principal had put it that way, Chen Guo didn’t feel she could ask too many questions. She signed the contract.
The next day, Chen Guo took the contract to Yang Yue’s company.
She still wasn’t used to calling him Yang Huainan.
"Yang Yue, did you arrange this job for me?"
Chen Guo walked into his office and placed the contract on his desk.
Yang Yue was dressed in a sharp suit, a crisp white shirt underneath, and a pair of gold-rimmed glasses. He looked every bit the disciplined and authoritative figure.
He was seated, while Chen Guo stood, but his commanding presence made it hard for her to breathe.
"Yes, my English translator just resigned. You’re the perfect replacement."
Yang Yue had reviewed Chen Guo’s background and knew she had majored in English in college. She spoke fluent, standard English, which was exactly what he needed.
"But…"
Chen Guo thought about the complicated relationship between them and felt awkward. If she accepted this job, she’d have to see Yang Yue every day, and she wasn’t sure she was ready for that. It just felt… strange.
"It’s settled. Do you have a better option than working here?"
The Yang Yue sitting in the boss’s chair was very different from the one she usually interacted with. He was assertive, his gaze sharp and decisive, leaving no room for argument.
Chen Guo caved. She nodded and said, "Alright, I’ll work hard."
Since she couldn’t avoid it, she might as well accept it. Besides, Chen Guo comforted herself, MY Group was one of the top companies in the country. If she could work here, she would learn a lot, and that knowledge would be her capital—the first step toward becoming stronger.
