Wife Seduction Manual- Chapter 29

Chapter 29: Enemies meet on a narrow road

Just when Chen Guo thought her life would continue to move forward without any major upheavals, reality gave her another harsh blow.

On her third day working at MY Group, Chen Guo ran into He Yan'er at the elevator.

Chen Guo reached out to press the elevator button, but someone else’s hand got there first.

She turned her head and was stunned. The world really was small. She never expected to see He Yan'er here.

He Yan'er was equally surprised when she saw Chen Guo, but her surprise quickly turned into disdain. As a student from a prestigious university, she had always looked down on housewives who "did nothing." And now, this woman who had once "stolen" her man was standing right in front of her. He Yan'er couldn’t help but sneer, "Well, well, if it isn’t the old lady. Fancy running into you here."

"Yeah, what a small world," Chen Guo replied, rolling her eyes. She had no interest in engaging with He Yan'er and stepped into the elevator first.

But the more Chen Guo ignored her, the more it irked He Yan'er. She blocked the elevator door and stepped in, deliberately provoking Chen Guo. "You know, from what I’ve heard, you’re just a clueless housewife. What qualifications do you have to work here?"

He Yan'er had earned her internship at MY Group through her excellent academic performance at a top university and a recommendation from her professor. Otherwise, there was no way she could have gotten into such a prestigious company.

Yet here she was, seeing Chen Guo—a woman who, in her eyes, had no skills—working at MY Group. He Yan'er was convinced that Chen Guo must have gotten the job through connections, and that thought infuriated her. Growing up in a poor family, He Yan'er had always had to work twice as hard to get ahead. She despised people who relied on connections to get what they wanted.

Chen Guo could hear the jealousy in He Yan'er’s voice. She smiled faintly. "There’s a lot I can do. Do I need to prove it to you?"

After graduating, Chen Guo had chosen to focus on her family, but that didn’t mean she had learned less than others in college. If it came down to a competition of skills, she wasn’t sure she would lose to He Yan'er.

"You—!"

He Yan'er was fuming. It hadn’t been that long since they last met, but Chen Guo had become so much more confident. It was infuriating.

Originally, Chen Guo hadn’t planned to argue with He Yan'er. After all, He Yan'er was pregnant, and Chen Guo didn’t want to pick a fight with a pregnant woman. She had intended to treat He Yan'er as if she were invisible, but the constant provocations were too much to ignore. Even the most patient person would snap, and Chen Guo was no exception.

"Old lady, aren’t you curious why I’m working here?" He Yan'er continued, her words dripping with venom.

She knew Chen Guo was a few years older than her, and among women, age was always a sensitive topic. Every word she spoke was like a sharp knife, aimed straight at Chen Guo’s heart.

When the elevator doors opened, Chen Guo smiled and walked out in her high heels, leaving He Yan'er with a parting shot: "You’re still working even though you’re so far along in your pregnancy. It seems Lu Ze doesn’t know how to cherish you."

He Yan'er was right—no woman liked to be called old, and Chen Guo was no exception.

But Chen Guo could feel herself growing. In the past, He Yan'er’s words would have left her pale and shaken. Now, she had learned to keep her composure. Even if she felt like she had swallowed a fly, she could still smile and walk away.

So, she calmly stepped out of the elevator, ignoring He Yan'er’s curses behind her.

Chen Guo walked into the general manager’s office and sat down at her desk. She poured herself a cup of coffee, turned on her computer, and began her workday.

Technically, as a lowly translator and assistant, she wasn’t supposed to share an office with the general manager, even though the office was spacious.

But for some reason, Yang Yue had insisted on having her work in the same room as him. He even had a desk and chair set up to the left of his own.

What made Chen Guo most uncomfortable was that, from this position, Yang Yue could easily observe her every move while she worked. It felt like being "monitored," and it was incredibly unsettling.

But this was Yang Yue’s company, and he was the boss. All Chen Guo could do was mentally pep-talk herself and force herself to adapt to the job.
